However, he also points out that religion can be used and abused for political purpose and that lack of social justice is a major cause of strife.

Faith: Why do bad things happen to good people? A test of faith is when the just or innocent are hurt. Where is God?
Canon Davis explores four of the traditional answers to the question. Building on the work of Harold Kushner (When Bad Things Happen to Good People) and Philip Yancey (Where is God When It Hurts?), Davis (at about 10:22) rejects all four of these answers and then synthesizes two additional options: atheism or asking a different question: instead of asking "Why do bad things happen to good people?" to "How do I cope when bad things happen to me and those I love?".

  • 2nd January 2011  Rev'd Dawn Leger  -  Christmas II
The Rev'd Dawn Leger had prepared a sermon about the version of the visitation of the Magi based on Matthew's Gospel expecting some of the children to come forward and sit with her. No children came forward, so she gave the sermon from various places in the centre aisle of the Historic Chapel. While the sermon focused on the Magi and their visit to Herod and how their news of his jealousy allowed the baby Jesus and his family to escape Herod's wrath, the microphones were not focused on Dawn (we do not use the wireless head-worn microphones in the Historic Chapel)! We have decided to include this despite sub-standard recording quality, as it is a good and animated telling of this version of the story and the importance of Epiphany.
