Agnes' Alley
Have you ever wondered about that strange small
wooden door in the back entrance lobby, or where the phrase Agnes' Alley
originated? Although now used simply as storage, before 2001 this was a
narrow passageway from the chapel (1884 church) to the old sacristy which was
located approximately where the back lobby now is.
For many years, Agnes Willis was head of the chancel
guild, and every Sunday would find her bustling back and forth along this narrow
passageway bearing pattens, chalices and all the other "Holy Hardware" At
some time during his incumbency, Phil Poole started calling it Agnes' Alley and
the name stuck.
