Davis -
4th Sunday after Pentecost
The Rev'd Canon Dawn Davis explained the outcome of General
Synod in Halifax. She began by quoting from Primate Fred Hiltz,
"...our church has been truly renewed in the Spirit of God, reborn
in love, we have a new beginning." She continues,"We knew we had
been part of something that was monumental for who we are as a
church. Something had happened there that marked a brand new
beginning." After further explanation about how the "homosexual
issue" was resolved at General Synod, Rev'd Canon Dawn Davis
declared, "I most definitely want to affirm that here at Trinity
all people: Jew, non-Jew, male, female, young, old, black, white,
Aboriginal, non-Aboriginal, all cultures, gay, lesbian, straight,
are welcome here." This statement was met by spontaneous applause
from the congregation. Canon Davis closed the sermon with a
touching story from General Synod.
